High DefinitionWhat is HDTV?

High Definition Television (HDTV) is a new TV system, with the most advanced digital technology. It has 2 million pixels, 10 times more than standard television. It means that you can see all the details, even if there are many people on the screen, like a sports event or theater, with a quality similar to cinema or a good picture.

It comes in wide screen format, 16:9 instead of 4:3 in standard TV. It means you see the movies as they are.

Standard DefinitionThe change in technology and quality, from the actual television to high definition television, can be compared to the change from black and white TV to color TV 50 years ago.

Today all flat screen TVS are HD; and many have also 3D capability, using the right eyeglasses to watch it. The satellite TV companies are offering more and more HD channels, they also have 3D transmissions at times. In the not so far future, they will probably stop transmitting in standard definition.
